Privacy Policy
Plain-English summary: SaveReceipts does not store your receipts, photos, or financial data on our servers. Everything goes directly between your browser and your own Google Drive. We collect only the minimum needed to run the service and we never sell your data.
1. Who we are
SaveReceipts ("we", "us", "our") is a web application available at savereceipts.com. It allows users to photograph receipts and save them directly to their own Google Drive, with optional AI-powered data extraction for Pro subscribers.

2. What data we collect
2.1 Google account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. This is used to personalise your in-app experience (e.g. displaying your name) and to sync your SaveReceipts settings across devices.
2.2 Receipt images
Receipt photos you take or upload are processed in your browser and sent directly to your Google Drive. We do not store, cache, or retain copies of your receipt images on our servers at any point.
If you are a Pro subscriber, receipt images are temporarily transmitted to Anthropic's API (Claude AI) for data extraction — pulling out merchant name, total, date, and line items. This is ephemeral: Anthropic processes the image and returns extracted text only. The image is not stored by Anthropic beyond the duration of the API call, subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
2.3 Receipt metadata
Receipt metadata (merchant, amount, date, category, Drive link, project, and custom fields) is stored in your browser's local storage and synced to Firebase Firestore so your history can appear when you sign in on another device. Receipt images and PDFs are not stored in Firestore; they are saved to your Google Drive.
2.4 Usage data
A monthly upload count is stored in your browser's local storage and synced to Firebase Firestore to enforce the free tier limit of 10 uploads per month across devices.
2.5 Payment data
Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Stripe. We never receive, handle, or store your payment card details. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy. We receive only a confirmation that a payment was completed successfully.
3. Google API scopes we request
SaveReceipts requests the following Google OAuth scopes. We request only what is strictly necessary for the app to function:

SaveReceipts' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. How we use your data
- To authenticate you and display your profile within the app
- To upload receipt images to your selected Google Drive folder
- To create and update project expense spreadsheets in your Google Drive (Pro only)
- To extract structured data from receipts using AI (Pro only)
- To enforce the monthly upload limit for free tier users
- To process Pro subscription payments via Stripe
We do not use your data for advertising, behavioural profiling, or any purpose beyond directly operating the service described on this page.
5. Data sharing and third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for their own commercial purposes. Data passes through the following service providers only as necessary to operate SaveReceipts:
- Google LLC — OAuth authentication, Drive API, Sheets API. Google Privacy Policy

- Stripe Inc. — Payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Stripe Privacy Policy

6. Data storage and retention
Receipt images and PDFs are saved to your Google Drive and are not stored by SaveReceipts. App data — receipt metadata, project list, settings, Drive links, and upload counts — is held in your browser's local storage and synced to Firebase Firestore for cross-device continuity.
Files and spreadsheets saved to your Google Drive are stored by Google and governed by Google's data policies. You may delete them at any time through your Google Drive.
7. Your rights (GDPR and other applicable law)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing.
These rights can be exercised as follows:
- Revoke Google access: Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove SaveReceipts. This immediately ends all access to your Google account.
- Clear local data: Clear your browser's site data for savereceipts.com to delete locally stored receipt history, settings, and counters.
- Delete synced metadata: Email hello@savereceipts.com to request deletion of synced Firestore metadata associated with your account.
- Delete Drive content: Delete any receipt images or spreadsheets created by the app directly from your Google Drive.

8. Cookies and tracking
SaveReceipts does not use advertising networks or tracking pixels. The app uses browser localStorage to persist your session and app data locally on your device, and uses Firebase Firestore to sync app metadata across your signed-in devices.
9. Security
All data transmitted between your browser and Google, Firebase, or Anthropic's APIs is encrypted via HTTPS. We follow industry-standard security practices and minimise synced data to app metadata needed to operate the service.
10. Children's privacy
SaveReceipts is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us at hello@savereceipts.com and we will take appropriate steps.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of SaveReceipts after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
