Privacy Policy

Plain-English summary: SaveReceipts does not store your receipts, photos, or financial data on our servers. Everything goes directly between your browser and your own Google Drive. We collect only the minimum needed to run the service and we never sell your data.

1. Who we are

SaveReceipts ("we", "us", "our") is a web application available at savereceipts.com. It allows users to photograph receipts and save them directly to their own Google Drive, with optional AI-powered data extraction for Pro subscribers.

2. What data we collect

2.1 Google account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. This is used only to personalise your in-app experience (e.g. displaying your name). It is stored in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

2.2 Receipt images

Receipt photos you take or upload are processed in your browser and sent directly to your Google Drive. We do not store, cache, or retain copies of your receipt images on our servers at any point.

If you are a Pro subscriber, receipt images are temporarily transmitted to Anthropic's API (Claude AI) for data extraction — pulling out merchant name, total, date, and line items. This is ephemeral: Anthropic processes the image and returns extracted text only. The image is not stored by Anthropic beyond the duration of the API call, subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

2.3 Receipt metadata

Extracted receipt details (merchant, amount, date, category) are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. This data only leaves your device when you choose to save it to your Google Drive or a Google Sheet as part of the app's core functionality.

2.4 Usage data

A monthly upload count is stored in your browser's local storage to enforce the free tier limit of 25 uploads per month. This count is never transmitted to our servers.

2.5 Payment data

Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Stripe. We never receive, handle, or store your payment card details. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy. We receive only a confirmation that a payment was completed successfully.

3. Google API scopes we request

SaveReceipts requests the following Google OAuth scopes. We request only what is strictly necessary for the app to function:

userinfo.profile To display your name and profile photo inside the app.
userinfo.email To identify your account and associate your local session with your Google identity.

SaveReceipts' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. How we use your data

We do not use your data for advertising, behavioural profiling, or any purpose beyond directly operating the service described on this page.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for their own commercial purposes. Data passes through the following service providers only as necessary to operate SaveReceipts:

We do not operate a database or backend server that stores your personal data. All app data — receipt history, project list, settings, and upload counts — is held in your browser's local storage on your own device and remains entirely under your control.

Files and spreadsheets saved to your Google Drive are stored by Google and governed by Google's data policies. You may delete them at any time through your Google Drive.

7. Your rights (GDPR and other applicable law)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing.

8. Cookies and tracking

SaveReceipts does not use cookies, analytics tools, advertising networks, or tracking pixels of any kind. The app uses browser localStorage solely to persist your session and app data locally on your device. No data is sent to us passively as you use the app.

9. Security

All data transmitted between your browser and Google or Anthropic's APIs is encrypted via HTTPS. We follow industry-standard security practices. Since we hold no server-side user data, the attack surface for data breaches related to your personal information is minimal.

10. Children's privacy

SaveReceipts is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us at hello@savereceipts.com and we will take appropriate steps.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of SaveReceipts after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
